Adafruit SGP30 Air Quality Sensor Breakout - VOC and eCO2

Breathe easy with the SGP30 Multi-Pixel Gas Sensor, a fully integrated MOX gas sensor. This is a very fine air quality sensor from the sensor experts at Sensirion, with I2C interfacing and fully calibrated output signals with a typical accuracy of 15% within measured values. The SGP combines multiple metal-oxide sensing elements on one chip to provide more detailed air quality signals.

This is a gas sensor that can detect a wide range of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and H2 and is intended for indoor air quality monitoring. When connected to your microcontroller (running our library code) it will return a Total Volatile Organic Compound (TVOC) reading and an equivalent carbon dioxide reading (eCO2) over I2C.

The SGP30 has a 'standard' hot-plate MOX sensor, as well as a small microcontroller that controls power to the plate, reads the analog voltage, tracks the baseline calibration, calculates TVOC and eCO2 values, and provides an I2C interface to read from. Unlike the CCS811, this sensor does not require I2C clock stretching.

This part will measure eCO2 (equivalent calculated carbon-dioxide) concentration within a range of 0 to 60,000 parts per million (ppm), and TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compound) concentration within a range of 0 to 60,000 parts per billion (ppb).

Please note, this sensor, like all VOC/gas sensors, has variability and to get precise measurements you will want to calibrate it against known sources! That said, for general environmental sensors, it will give you a good idea of trends and comparison. The SGP30 does have built in calibration capabilities, note that eCO2 is calculated based on H2 concentration, it is not a 'true' CO2 sensor for laboratory use.

Another nice element to this sensor is the ability to set humidity compensation for better accuracy. An external humidity sensor is required and then the RH% is written over I2C to the sensor, so it can better calculate the TVOC/eCO2 values.

For your convenience we've pick-and-placed the sensor on a PCB with a 1.8V regulator and some level shifting so it can be easily used with your favorite 3.3V or 5V microcontroller.

The Adafruit Trinket M0 may be small, but do not be fooled by its size! It's a tiny microcontroller board, built around the Atmel ATSAMD21, a little chip with a lot of power. We wanted to design a microcontroller board that was small enough to fit into any project, and low cost enough to use without hesitation. Perfect for when you don't want to give up your expensive dev-board and you aren't willing to take apart the project you worked so hard to design. It's our lowest-cost CircuitPython programmable board!

We've taken the same form factor we used for the original ATtiny85-based Trinket and gave it an upgrade. The Trinket M0 has swapped out the lightweight ATtiny85 for a ATSAMD21E18 powerhouse. It's just as small, and it's easier to use, so you can do more.

The most exciting part of the Trinket M0 is that while you can use it with the Arduino IDE, we are shipping it with CircuitPython on board. When you plug it in, it will show up as a very small disk drive with main.py on it. Edit main.py with your favorite text editor to build your project using Python, the most popular programming language. No installs, IDE or compiler needed, so you can use it on any computer, even ChromeBooks or computers you can't install software on. When you're done, unplug the Trinket M0 and your code will go with you. Tower Light - Red Yellow Green Alert Light with Buzzer - 12VDC

We got some really nice tower lights here, first up they come in slimming Adafruit black, they're easy to attach with mounting holes, and you can rotate the light mount so it can be horizontal, vertical or any angle in between (180 rotation).

This is the tri-color version but we also have a smaller Red-only Alert Light in the store if you want a smaller, simpler alert light

Alert tower lights are really easy to use. The brown wire is the common +12V power line, then the other wires are connected to ground to activate each of the three LED lights: red wire for red light, yellow wire for yellow light and, you guessed it, green wire for green light. The final orange wire is what controls the buzzer which will sound continuously when the wire is grounded. We did notice that you can't have both the yellow and red lamps on at once, and in general its best to only have one lamp lit at a time for max brightness. The buzzer can be turned on whenever, it does not seem to be affected by the lights.

You will need a 12VDC power supply to get it going. If you are using this with a 3V or 5V microcontroller or computer, use 4 x NPN transistors or N-channel mosfets to sink current from each wire. Our guide on analog LED strips is pretty much the same wiring you need, except its only about 50mA per segment. If you desperately need something that can run off of 5V you might consider wiring up your own white LEDs instead of using the LEDs that come with it.

Adafruit Itsy Bitsy 32u4 - 3V 8MHz

What's smaller than a Feather but larger than a Trinket? It's an Itsy Bitsy! Small, powerful, Arduino-compatible - this microcontroller board is perfect when you want something very compact, but still with a bunch of pins.

Itsy Bitsy is only 1.4" long by 0.7" wide, but has 6 power pins, 6 analog & digital pins and 17 digital pins. It packs much of the same capability as an Arduino UNO or Feather 32u4. So it's great once you've finished up a prototype on a bigger Arduino, and want to make the project much smaller.

The Itsy Bitsy 32u4 3V 8MHz uses the Atmega32u4 chip, which is the same core chip in the Arduino Leonardo as well as the same chip we use in our Feather 32u4. It even runs at the same voltage and speed as the Feather 32u4, so you'll be happy to hear that not only is Itsy Bitsy programmable using the Arduino IDE as you already set up, but a vast number of projects will work out of the box!

We recommend this as an upgrade from the Pro Trinket 3V because this has native USB so it will work with all computers, USB serial debugging, and a more reliable bootloader. You can even use the Pro Trinket LiPo backpack with this board to add recharge-able battery.

We have two special pins on the 3V version of this board. There's a VHigh pin, this pin is a power pin whose voltage is the higher of VBAT and VUSB. We also made the digital #5 pin extra special on this board, it connects to a level shifter so it is only an output but the output is that 'high logic'. Basically what this means is if you want to drive NeoPixels, a picky servo, or a high-dropout-voltage LED from this board, and you want a 5V-logic-level output, this pin is the one you should use!

EdBuild – EdTank

The EdTank is actually two builds in one: the basic EdTank and the complete EdTank with rubber band cannon.

The basic EdTank uses one Edison robot which can be programmed to drive forwards, backwards and spin right or left using barcodes and a TV or DVD remote control. The complete EdTank includes a second Edison robot which controls the firing of the rubber band cannon.

EdBuild – EdCrane

The EdCrane is a remote-controlled crane with a magnetic hook which you can raise and lower. The metal peg can be attached to one of the parts from the EdCreate kit, such as a 3-hole beam, and used with the magnetic hook.

The Makey Makey Classic uses high-resistance switching to detect when you’ve made a connection even through materials that aren’t very conductive (like leaves, pasta or people). This technique attracts noise on the input, so a moving window averager is used to lowpass the noise. The Makey Makey can also act like a keyboard or mouse. There are six inputs on the front of the board, which can be attached to via alligator clipping, soldering to the pads, or any other method you can think of. There are another 12 inputs on the back, six for keyboard keys and six for mouse motion, which you can access with jumpers via the female headers.

Adafruit BME680 - Temperature, Humidity, Pressure and Gas Sensor

The long awaited BME680 from Bosch gives you all the environmental sensing you want in one small package. This little sensor contains temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and VOC gas sensing capabilities. All over SPI or I2C at a great price!

Like the BME280 & BMP280, this precision sensor from Bosch can measure humidity with ±3% accuracy, barometric pressure with ±1 hPa absolute accuracy, and temperature with ±1.0°C accuracy. Because pressure changes with altitude, and the pressure measurements are so good, you can also use it as an altimeter with ±1 meter or better accuracy!

The BME680 takes those sensors to the next step in that it contains a small MOX sensor. The heated metal oxide changes resistance based on the volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the air, so it can be used to detect gasses & alcohols such as Ethanol, Alcohol and Carbon Monoxide, and perform air quality measurements. Note it will give you one resistance value, with overall VOC content, but it cannot differentiate gasses or alcohols.

Please note this sensor, like all VOC/gas sensors, has variability and to get precise measurements you will want to calibrate it against known sources! That said, for general environmental sensors, it will give you a good idea of trends and comparisons. We recommend that you run this sensor for 48 hours when you first receive it to "burn it in", and then 30 minutes in the desired mode every time the sensor is in use. This is because the sensitivity levels of the sensor will change during early use, and the resistance will slowly rise over time as the MOX warms up to its baseline reading.

For your convenience we've pick-and-placed the sensor on a PCB with a 3.3V regulator and some level shifting, so it can be easily used with your favorite 3.3V or 5V microcontroller.

Question 1: Can the LulzBot TAZ Dual Extruder v3 Tool Head print in two colors of the same material?
Answer: Yes, absolutely, however the print profiles built into Cura LulzBot Edition have not been optimized for multicolor printing. If multicolor printing is your goal, you may need to make modifications to the included profiles for optimal results. We have included all LulzBot supported material base profiles under the Experimental classification in Materials as a good starting point. As we continue to develop Cura LulzBot Edition, we hope to have more supported material combinations in the future.

Question 2: Can the LulzBot TAZ Dual Extruder v3 Tool Head print flexible materials?
Answer: Yes, the Dual Extruder v3 is capable of printing flexible materials. Through our internal testing, we have found that PolyDissolve S1 and PVA stick very will to TPU’s (flexible filaments), but the profiles have not yet been fine-tuned for optimal cosmetic results. Because of this, all of our flexible material profiles have been included in the Experimental section of Cura LulzBot Edition as a starting point for making your own modifications. Printing with flexible materials is recommended for advanced users on the Dual Extruder v3. As we continue to work on Cura LulzBot Edition, we hope to have more supported materials in the future.

Question 3: Can the LulzBot TAZ Dual Extruder v3 Tool Head print solid and flexible materials together?
Answer: Yes, the hardware of the Dual Extruder v3 is capable of printing solid and flexible material together, but the profiles have not been optimized for reliability or cosmetic results. Because of this, all of our flexible and solid material profiles are included in the Experimental section of Cura LulzBot Edition Materials, and can be used as a good starting point for making your own modifications. Printing with flexible and solid materials is recommended for advanced users on the Dual Extruder v3.

What do you do when you need a variety of measurements on your current project? (pun intended!) You could buy a slew of test equipment tools OR you could use this very nice panel-mount multi-function power meter! This power meter comes with a nice, big (and backlit!) LCD screen to display voltage, current, power, and energy parameters.

You can use this meter to find out if your voltage is too low or your current draw is too high. It even does some nice calculations for you like Watts and cumulative Watt-hours. There is a small recessed button you can use to reset the cumulative measurements.

It is powered by the load it measures so wiring is very simple - two wires in, two wires out. Great for bench-top use or for embedding into your project's enclosure (note that it is meant for indoor use only.) Unlike some of our other power meters, this one requires 6.5VDC, and you cannot power it externally so it's good for higher-voltage projects not for microcontrollers.

Adafruit PT1000 RTD Temperature Sensor Amplifier - MAX31865

For precision temperature sensing, nothing beats a Platinum RTD. Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) are temperature sensors that contain a resistor that changes resistance value as its temperature changes, basically a kind of thermistor. In this sensor, the resistor is actually a small strip of Platinum with a resistance of 1000 ohms at 0°C, thus the name PT1000. Compared to most NTC/PTC thermistors, the PT type of RTD is much most stable and precise (but also more expensive) PT1000's have been used for many years to measure temperature in laboratory and industrial processes, and have developed a reputation for accuracy (better than thermocouples), repeatability, and stability.

However, to get that precision and accuracy out of your PT1000 RTD you must use an amplifier that is designed to read the low resistance. Better yet, have an amplifier that can automatically adjust and compensate for the resistance of the connecting wires. If you're looking for a great RTD sensor, today is your lucky day because we have a lovely Adafruit RTD Sensor Amplifier with the MAX31865 breakout for use with any 2, 3 or 4 wire PT1000 RTD!

We've carried various MAXIM thermocouple amplifiers and they're great - but thermocouples don't have the best accuracy or precision, for when the readings must be as good as can be. The MAX31865 handles all of your RTD needs, and can even compensate 3 or 4 wire RTDs for better accuracy. Connect to it with any microcontroller over SPI and read out the resistance ratio from the internal ADC. We put a 4300Ω 0.1% resistor as a reference resistor on the breakout. We have some example code that will calculate the temperature based on the resistance for you.

We even made the breakout 5V compliant, with a 3.3V regulator and level shifting, so you can use it with any Arduino or microcontroller.

The powerful Pololu 24V Step-Up Voltage Regulator U3V50F24 efficiently generates an output voltage of 24 V from an input voltage as low as 2.9 V while allowing an input current as high as 5 A.

These boost (step-up) voltage regulators generate higher output voltages from input voltages as low as 2.9 V. They are switching regulators (also called switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) or DC-to-DC converters) and have a typical efficiency between 80% to 95%. The available output current is a function of the input voltage, output voltage, and efficiency (see the Typical Efficiency and Output Current section below), but the input current can typically be as high as 5 A. This regulator is available with a fixed 5 V, 6 V, 9 V, 12 V, or 24 V output:

The U3V50x regulator family also includes two adjustable-output versions: the U3V50ALV offers an output range of 4 V to 12 V and the U3V50AHV offers an output range of 9 V to 30 V. The different versions of the board all look very similar, so the bottom silkscreen includes a blank space where you can add your own distinguishing marks or labels.

The no-load quiescent current will typically be between 1 mA and 5 mA for most combinations of input and output voltages, though the combination of a very high output voltage and a very low input voltage (e.g. when boosting from 3 V in to 30 V out) can result in quiescent currents on the order of a few dozen milliamps. The ENABLE pin can be used to put the board in a low-power state that reduces the quiescent current to approximately 20 µA per volt on VIN.

This regulator has built-in reverse-voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal shutdown (which typically activates at 165°C), and an under-voltage lockout that causes the regulator to turn off when the input voltage is below 2.5 V (typical).
